Coronation Sunday afternoon saw bright and sunny weather bathing our very successful tea party in the garden at Earlham Rd.
Before launching into a regal feast prepared by members and guests, we had the bonus of an informal tree planting ceremony.
This was to plant a hazel sapling given by the Bishop of Norwich, Bishop Graham, hotfoot from his Coronation duties at Westminster Abbey, as a mark of friendship between the Church and the Jewish community. This was all arranged by local members of the Council for Christians and Jews, and we were delighted that their local Chair Bishop David Gillett and a number of their members were able to join us.
We were also very pleased to welcome a number of our near neighbours living in Royal Arch Court, who were happy to get a glimpse of what goes on behind the tall wall and hedges of the “synagogue next door”, and thoroughly enjoyed their visit. We do hope that we may see more of them at future community events.
I’m sure that this is exactly what Baroness Scott, the Minister for Faiths and Communities, who was also able to join us, had hoped to encourage by promoting Coronation inspired community events like this.
This was a great afternoon, and enormous thanks are due to those who devoted so much time and effort into making it such a success.
