Jean Goodman 1918 – 2003

Jean Goodman died on 5th September 2003. Together with her husband, the late Lionel Goodman, she had been a member of the Synagogue since the 1940’s.

A well-known and versatile journalist and author she was blessed with a razor-sharp mind and a directness honed by her Leeds upbringing and was a 1930s pioneer who made her name in the male bastion of journalism. She was a regular contributor to Woman’s Hour on Radio 4, the Tonight programme and Look East on TV. She also had ten books to her credit, including biographies of artists Edward Seago, and Alfred Munnings.

Along with her husband she was a great believer in family life and they were guided by the values of Judaism. She supported Synagogue functions and for several years her lovely garden was venue for the NISS summer garden parties. She leaves two sons, Jonathan and Simon and their families.
