From the President’s Chair – July/August 2018

We are now well into summer with its warmer weather and look forward to most of us taking holidays. There have been regular Sabbath morning services taking place as usual although not always as well attended as we would like. There have been several developments during the past couple of months and the changing of the community’s legal status to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) is progressing slowly as we have to change our Constitution to conform with the Charity Commissioner’s requirements. This will give better legal protection for our Trustees and members of the community when we begin our building project. The re-development plans have been finalized and an application has been made for Building Regulations. It was decided at the recent committee meeting that the development would not be started until we have established our new status as a CIO. We thank Leo Levine who has offered her services as a temporary Treasurer and all payments to the Synagogue should be sent to her, while Peter Prinsley is still handling the Synagogue’s payments. We are still looking for a permanent Treasurer, however ……….
