CST – Security Bulletin March / April 2017

Following the terrorist incident in Westminster on 22 March 2017, CST requests that our community be calm, vigilant and cooperative with security measures at UK Jewish communal locations. The incident follows many warnings from Police and Government in recent months regarding the continuing high level of terrorist threat. This unfortunate reality demonstrates why CST works so closely with local Jewish communities, Police and Government. Your continued cooperation with security measures is a crucial part of our combined efforts. CST works in partnership with you so that our communal life is not defined by antisemitism or terrorism. We want to ensure that British Jews can continue to lead their lives as they choose. CST stress that there is no specific information indicating a planned attack against British Jews. We ask that you understand and comply with these security measures:

Members of the community should not gather outside communal buildings and events

• Be alert for suspicious people and activities including parked cars and unattended items near communal buildings and Jewish neighbourhoods • Report suspicious activity to Police on 999 and then tell CST

• Prevent ‘tailgating’.  Stopping someone following close behind you, attempting to gain access to the building when gates or doors are opened

We always require new volunteers to join the communal security effort, either as full members of CST, or as active participants in the security rotas at synagogues and schools. Training is an essential part of this and will be provided. Please contact your local security officer, or contact CST directly via the “Join Us” section of our website (www.cst.org.uk). To keep informed of CST’s latest updates, please follow us on Twitter (@CST_UK)

CST remains at its second highest level of alert and urges the community to report all antisemitic incidents and any suspicious activities immediately. This information will help CST and the Police to ensure that the community is able to conduct its activities in peace and comfort.
