A weekly Cheder has not been held during this last year because the age range of our members’ children has been too young, but now Marsha Parker has taken on for one year the organisation of a new cheder which will cater for all ages and ability aged 3 upwards.
Initially we are going to meet fortnightly on alternate Saturdays and Sundays. With our festival season about to begin you will see from the attached calendar that there is plenty going on for the children in our community. There will be a children’s service for each festival. The first date for the term will be Sunday 20 September. Parents will have been notified of actual dates. Bracha Hart and I will coordinate the sessions and we look forward to contributions from parents for all or part of the time.
Our aim is that children should:
- Be proud to be Jewish,
- Learn and understand the practices and traditions of Judaism,
- Learn and understand basic prayers and feel comfortable in a Synagogue
- Read Hebrew (when they are ready)
- Learn, practice and understand the morals, values and ethical behaviour in Judaism and build lasting friendships with other Jewish children
