Condolences

We are very sorry to tell you that our past president Ethel Imber-Lithman sadly passed away last week.  Kaddish was recited in Shul this Shabbos and it was a testament of our respect for her that a good minyan was present.  Her granddaughter Sarah Jane Salman gave a short tribute as follows, “I’d like to say a few words to share my love of my grandma Ethel, who would of been 92 on 16th February 2016.  She was an officer in the Red Cross in the 2nd World War and she volunteered with her husband Leslie a consultant anaesthetist during the 6-day war and was awarded the Haddasah Medal.  She wrote and published a book about her relative Naftali Hertz Imber who wrote a poem on which Israel’s national anthem Hatikvah is based.  She was also the first female President of the Norwich Hebrew Congregation between 1997 and 1999.  She was an incredibly strong woman with much character who has had a great influence on my life and who I love dearly. She carried with her a little book called Springs of Jewish wisdom, from which I will read you a line quoted from the book of Genesis, ‘Behold, I am with you and will keep you with me wherever you go’.”

We send our deepest condolences to all the family and wish them Long Life.
