From the Bimah – Sept/Oct 2018

Though not all of us are religiously inclined, all of us at some point I believe, have at least encountered spiritual moments where we have searched and found an experience for God and His place in our lives. My most recent such Godly experience was found during a visit to Israel in a Jerusalem sunset, as I stood and prayed at the ancient Western Wall. I found that encounter spiritually uplifting and I was moved and inspired by it. Inspiration is what we all need in our lives as we prepare ourselves for Rosh Hashanah the Jewish New Year.

How do we best go about finding that sense of inspiration, and once found, how do we sustain it?? The answer I believe is contained in the words of Leviticus Chapter 18. Verse 5. “You shall keep My laws and My rules, by the pursuit of which man shall live: I am the Lord”

If we use moments of inspiration to shape our attitudes and behavioural patterns, so that we live our daily Jewish lives with the passion and excitement by that which we were inspired, then we can expect our moment of inspiration to provide for us a long lasting life changing experience.

We have a full calendar of services during the upcoming High Holiday period. It is my hope and prayer that as we attend these services, that we each find something to inspire us, and to provide us with that which we need to ensure a life changing year ahead. Wishing you all a Shanah Tovah, a sweet, peaceful, and blessed year!!
