Project Update – June 2017

The big news this month is that our planning application to Norwich City Council for our building extension and alterations have been approved.  We now have three years to get the works started.

We had to amend the originally planned front elevation as the Council planning officers felt that we had made it too “plain & modern” saying that we had lost the character of the current facade, which people can easily recognise as a Synagogue.  The approved plan is shown below.

We continue to fund raise and we now have over £282,000 either donated or pledged, so only another £103k to go!  Nevertheless, Marian and I remain optimistic and currently have applications in with two large charities,  fingers crossed that one of these will help us with a significant donation.

On a smaller scale we again have to give our grateful thanks to our friend and congregation member Jonny D’Angour as he has produced another of his small booklets of wise and interesting words, all proceeds from which go to our refurbishment fund.  So far this new edition has raised over £250.

This booklet is called “Up with the Lark” and is simply his thoughts and expressions of love and thanks to some of his many friends.  I personally have great admiration for Jonny; firstly, for making the effort to help us fund raise and secondly, for his talent and bravery to write down his innermost feelings and share with us all.  This for me and probably many other readers would be a difficult if not impossible task.

Finally, just a quick reminder that our BIG summer concert takes place this Sunday, 25th June featuring the world famous Zemel Choir.  Plenty of tickets still available, so if you can come along please do so and bring some friend with you to support your congregation.  For more details click here.
