The Interfaith Week held in November in which some of our members took part was successful. The first event at which we were well represented was the ‘Moving meal’. The chefs for the meal who popped up at the Shul first, then the Mosque in Chapel Field and then at the Roman Catholic Cathedral for the last course , were great. “The Feed” a catering organisation that supports and trains disadvantaged individuals to cook looked smart and professional in their white chef outfits and produced a vegan meal to suit all participants.
It was particularly interesting for us to visit the mosque which was, I felt, a surprisingly simple building, where many of us ate sitting on the floor as they don’t possess many chairs as they pray kneeling rather than sitting. There was a balcony for the women. We were made very welcome.
Each venue gave an introduction on to their religion and heritage. I gave the introduction on to the Synagogue and a very brief history, and the visitors expressed their interest and thanks. Following from our contribution the Spiritualist Church members in particular, asked if they could come one of our services. We are, therefore, holding a special ‘Open Service’ for them to attend on Shabbat 21 January, together with any other non-Jews who wish to come along. The week ended with a short concert of songs from several different religions in the Anglican cathedral from the Interfaith Choir which included members of NHC and NLJC.
